Summary

This is my third Jetta TDI in the last 5 years. I put an average of 80,500 km (50,000 miles) per year and find a ready resale market for them.

The latest version has a better feel to the controls; especially the linkage of the manual...

Strength

Improved switch gear. Higher torque

Weakness

Fuzz magnet upholstery.

Bottom Line

Drive at least 50,000 km (31,000 miles) per year? The added cost of the diesel is offset by the increased fuel efficiency and lower fuel costs.

Summary

I bought the 2002 Jetta TDI used in May 2004 (so I cannot speak to any issues prior to that mileage). It had 34,000 miles on it at the time. She now has just a notch over 90,000 miles, and has had surprisingly few problems. I was told by numerous...

Strength

Fun to drive, peppy diesel, solid engineering, european suspension, stylish interior.

Weakness

NON-EXISTENT backseat, VW customer service is horrible, expensive maintenance

Bottom Line

Buy this car for its efficiency and long-life of the engine; otherwise, you will not recoup the above-average cost. Finally, do not purchase if you need backseat room.
